Many departments and individual officers are wisely choosing short-barreled AR pattern rifles and with suppressors for close quarters work. When you need it, a light tug lets the sling expand and off to work you go. Just thread the band through the sling and fold it up into the band. I like high-quality rubber bands commonly referred to as “Ranger Bands” for this problem. Okay, maybe not everything, but I have about a 100% chance of snagging my sling on something when I’m in a hurry. A two-point sling which is looped large enough to fit over an officer with body armor is also large enough to snag on everything in your patrol vehicle when you’re in a hurry.
There is one particular issue I see with slings I don’t feel gets enough attention. Two-point slings will do everything an officer needs to do without the complications incurred by the other two systems. I always encourage new officers to just start and end with a high-quality two-point sling because that’s where they’ll end up anyway. In fact, I’ve seen it more often than not. I’ve seen newer officers buy three-point slings, then single-point slings and finally settle on the more traditional two-point slings. This combination gives an officer the best of both worlds – quick sighting for close up and magnification for distance shooting – with a simple flip of the magnifier. A possible enhancement to the RDS is a switch-to-side magnifier like this EOTech. Most law enforcement confrontations happen at short distances and the RDS makes for a quick sighting option. The most common choice for AR optics is the simple Red Dot/Holographic sights (RDS). In this day and age, there’s little reason not to add an optic of some kind. SightĪlthough, iron sights on an AR make a perfectly acceptable sighting system, optics make the AR-15 more effective. There just is no excuse not to have a light on a law enforcement pistol or long gun anymore. These two companies have so many options between them I guarantee you will find something that will fit your needs. The two most common WML manufacturers used on law enforcement duty pistols and rifles are Streamlight and Surefire. A good example of that is the variety of high-quality, powerful weapon-mounted lights (WML) on the market. This is the golden age of tactical equipment. We’ll start out looking at the variety of options in these three staples and then look for some accessories that have the ability to enhance the performance of the both the officer and his or her carbine. There are certainly other upgrades that can be helpful, but these three are must-haves in my opinion. There are three accessories or modifications considered to be absolutely necessary in a law enforcement carbine: Light, sight and sling. I'll be looking into AR courses in this area. The AR-15 is made so versatile by modularity that allows it to be highly customizable. The rest of the stuff is pretty much readily added, or removed.
But, I'll update if I need to, and go floating in the process. I'm anticipating it to be "good", not necessarily great quailty. Another reason to send the off-sets back, if that's the case.Īs to the picatinny rail quailty, I'll have to wait and see upon arrival. If there is little/no interference, and the scope failed for whatever reason.the quick disconnect could get me back to the original irons. True, they are not high-quality advertised, but they DO have a strong feel to them and have many good posted reviews via Amazon (I know, blast me on that one!) But, if I don't need them.so much the better. If not, I can still return those as well. After reviewing the fact hat the Leupold scope is 1 1/4 x 20 with red dot, I've sent the the Burris III backĪs to my purchase of the off-set iron sights, my fear was that the AR front sight would interfere with the sighting through the scope.at least at certain magnifications.
This was to mount the Burris III red dot. I was asked why I purchased the Burris P.E.R.P. I'll take to heart all that has been mentioned, to the best of my ability. Thanks Folks! Lots of great info there, from what is obviously a group of true experts with much experience! quick disconnect mount w/picatinny rail, misc. 223 Sightmark laser bore sighter, forearm removal tool, magazine vice block, Burris P.E.P.R. No pics yet, as most of the items will be arriving this week and next.ħ) Additional items such as.
(though maybe some small game kill if the S really does hit the fan!)ĭo you all think this is a good setup? Will my front sight cause any problems and have to be removed? My useage is primarily home tactical, SHTF, and some target shooting.most likely 200 yards or less. Please keep in mind I'm quite new to all this, as I've previously been more of a handgun kindof guy.
I've ordered quite a few things the past few days for my 6920 LE.
